NP Attorney Peter Perroni recently achieved a significant arbitration victory on behalf of NEPBA Local 500, the Middlesex County Corrections Officer's Union. Through Peter's efforts, an arbitrator overturned the termination of a Local 500 member who was fired in connection with injuries sustained during an inmate confrontation. At time of termination, the member was in a no-pay status and out of sick time related to a subsequent injury that occurred off duty. The case presented very interesting issues touching upon fundamental fairness, given the officer's difficult situation. Ultimately, the arbitrator rejected the "form over substance" approach taken by the employer in firing him. Great work as always by Local 500 President Shea in getting the case set up for Arbitration.
