NP Attorney Gary Nolan wins Arbitration for NEPBA Local 570 overturning 30-year past practice

NP Attoney Gary Nolan recently won an arbitration victory on behalf of NEPBA Local 570, Norfolk County’s Corrections Supervisors Union. The case tackled a familiar labor issue - the disparity of workdays between officers assigned to the 5 & 2 schedule and those assigned to the 4 & 2 schedule. In Norfolk, 5 & 2 officers regularly worked roughly 2-weeks more per year than their 4 & 2 peers. Through the use of creative mathematical models as exhibits, the union was able to overturn a 30-year past practice, and obtain an arbitration award that mandates these supervisors receive an additional 17-days off per year, so that their workload is equal to the 4 & 2 schedule. The award representents a significant economic value to affected NEPBA members.

NEPBA representative Shaun Dewey and Local 570 official Lt. James McQuaid’s efforts were instrumental in achieving this victory.
